BEHIND THE LENS

Meet TREVOR

A Little About Me

I’m naturally more introverted and drawn to quieter environments, and I’ve always been someone who pays attention to the small things. I care about making people feel comfortable enough to be themselves because I know how much that shows in photos. I’m laid back by nature, but I enjoy getting to know people and helping them feel relaxed and comfortable. I think that perspective has shaped the way I approach photography, allowing me to notice and appreciate the moments that often happen between the posed ones.

I’ve grown to really appreciate being outdoors, especially places that feel calm and quiet. Whether it’s walking through Ojibway, spending time at Point Pelee, or stopping to take in a sunrise or sunset, those slower moments are something I’m naturally drawn to. Over time, that’s even turned into an interest in birding, something I never expected but genuinely enjoy. Spending time in nature has taught me patience and has given me an even greater appreciation for the small details that make a moment memorable.

At home, I’ve got two cats, Atlas and Apollo. I’ve always had a love for animals and wildlife, and enjoy photographing everything from birds to the smaller details like bees and butterflies. One day, I’d love to experience an African safari and photograph wildlife in a completely different environment.

Why I Photograph Proposals

There's something special about being trusted with a moment that can never be recreated. The excitement, anticipation, surprise, relief, and emotion all unfold within a matter of seconds, and then that moment becomes a memory.

The first proposal I photographed was for close friends of mine, and I remember the rush of nerves leading up to it. I cared so much about capturing their moment authentically because I knew how much it would mean to them. When everything finally happened, I realized it wasn't the pressure I connected with. It was the privilege of being there.

I love being part of someone's story and preserving a moment they can look back on for years to come. One of my favourite parts is when the person proposing points me out afterward and their partner suddenly realizes the whole thing was documented. Seeing their face light up with excitement and emotion never gets old. It's a reminder that these photographs become a way to revisit a moment that passed by in an instant.

Proposals are often an overlooked part of photography. They combine everything I enjoy most about photography: genuine emotion, meaningful storytelling, and the opportunity to document people exactly as they are. That's why I've chosen to focus on them and help couples remember exactly how it felt.

My Approach & Style

I believe the best photos come from people feeling comfortable enough to be themselves. That's why I take a calm, laid-back approach from the very beginning. I take the time to get to know each couple, learn what's important to them, and help them feel prepared without making the experience feel overly planned or scripted.

When it comes to the proposal itself, my goal is simple: stay out of the way and let the moment belong to you. I'll guide the planning beforehand, but once everything is in motion, I step back and allow events to unfold without interruption or influence so you can experience everything fully without feeling like there's a camera on you.

Afterward, I'll offer as much or as little direction as needed during portraits, focusing on genuine interactions rather than stiff poses. My goal is always to create photographs that feel true to who you are and what the moment actually felt like.

My editing style follows the same philosophy. I focus on real colours with a subtle pop where it matters most, preserving what we see with our own eyes while bringing out the vibrancy in the details. The goal is always to enhance, not overwhelm, and to keep the final images true to the emotion behind each moment.
